Step into a world of tranquility and mesmerizing colors at the Zenko-ji Tomyo Festival. Every February, the historic Zenko-ji Temple—a national treasure with over 1,400 years of history—is illuminated in five vibrant colors representing the Olympic rings, symbolizing a prayer for world peace.

Wander through the temple grounds and the historic Nakamise street, lined with hundreds of “Kiri-e” (paper-cut art) lanterns handcrafted by local artists and children. The soft, warm glow against the winter snow creates a nostalgic and spiritual atmosphere that can only be experienced during this limited time.
